HOW TO HAVE PRIVACY, SECURITY, AND SAFETY IN AN INTERCONNECTED WORLD

It’s no secret we have no secrets when it comes to the Internet. So how can we interact safely on the Internet? Chris Kelly knows a lot about privacy, security, and safety. As an IP lawyer and former Chief Privacy Officer for Facebook, Chris was instrumental in developing online privacy and identity safeguards. While working at Facebook, Chris worked with the Attorneys General of all 50 states to develop the “Key Principles Of Social Networking Safety,” which provided safeguards for online privacy. At the same time, however, these safeguards took away user anonymity.

In this talk, Chris will discuss the delicate balance of safeguarding personal privacy and protecting users from predators by requiring users to have a verified online identity, and what the future holds for both.

 

In 2005, Sean Parker introduced Chris Kelly to Facebook, where Chris became Employee 25. Ten years older than most employees, Chris provided a steady senior executive presence to this fledgling startup as Chief Privacy Officer and General Counsel.
